Study the traditions 和 experiences of people of African descent all over the world in our 非洲研究 minor.

教师 from a range of academic disciplines teach in our 非洲研究 minor. From a 历史 professor, you’ll learn how the Civil Rights movement actually began in the 1860s. From a music professor, you’ll take a closer look at the development of jazz. With a 哲学 professor, you’ll compare Plato’s Republic to HBO’s The Wire.

This minor pairs well with any of our majors, but may be of particular interest to 哲学, 历史, 社会学, 政治科学和剧院学生.

Only 4 semester hours of this minor may be double-counted toward the student’s major.

The course explores the emergence of three related fields of inquiry-African Studies, 非裔美国人研究, 和 African Diaspora Studies-和 is divided into three modules that correspond to each of these fields. Often regrouped within what has been called “非洲研究,” scholars in these fields pursue a broad range of questions such as the relationship between blackness 和 modernity, 后殖民政治, 和 the construction of diasporic identity.
